More cool stuff

It's about time someone did this, although I'm sure something similar has been done once upon a time. I wonder how I would have reacted to these at a younger, more impressionable age. Plus the photography is good.

Social networking at its finest, Twitter has enabled a worldwide conversation about what is going on in Iran. Really interesting to watch all this get organized and wondering if the authorities are going to be able to block use of the site within Iran. If any phantom readers are interested in history and politics, the events going on there right now are no joke. This is history in the making, a revolution of silent marches by tens of thousands of people, with a severe government crackdown, and a ban on honest journalism.

What actually causes people to rise up and how joining with one another creates power - these things are on display in Iran now. It makes me think about how people need company in order to maintain that essential basic human need called dignity. I think about solitary confinement versus all those people in the streets together, keeping it real.

This is one of the most important things to happen during these times of stalemate and constant misunderstanding between the USA and the Muslim world. The facts are that there are far fewer differences than there are similarities between the us. This is an amazing display of peaceful protest and the importance of the freedom of the press, behaviors and values that we should all hold dear.

I have always admired the Iranian people, with poetry commonly on their bestseller lists and stories of women shaving their heads to pass as men and gain access to the streets. I hope to visit this amazing country someday.

Living to 100

What if I became obsessed with living to 100? How would I go about it?

100th Birthday Parties...check it.

Iran

The protests there are just awesome, in the actual meaning of that word. When Bush was president, I felt a kinship with the average person in Iran. She is smart, interesting, edgy, but her government leaders are super lame madmen types.

The young people of Iran have taken to the streets for all the world to see. People can only take so much B.S., until their unified desire for dignity takes over. Don't insult us, they say. We are not like post-soccer match hooligans, as you say we are. We are people who believe in ourselves, rather than your B.S.

Welcome to their breaking point.

Seattle Urban Farming Co.

Volunteer farmed with them last weekend. Met a bunch of worms and a few centipedes. Weeded. Shoveled compost. Went home with a few tomato plants and a squash plant for my yard. And I really, really want chickens someday.

I think it would be really cool (insert sigh) if some of the ways of older times were re-adopted, such as families farming their small yards and keeping chickens. Good food, good savings, good for the environment. And it's also actually fun.
